Microbial Quality Assessment of Raw Freshwater Fish Sold in Local Markets of Kathmandu Valley

Microbial quality of Labeo rohita, Cyprinus carpio and Clarias batrachus collected from the markets Kathmandu valley was evaluated. 9 freshwater fish (skin, gills, intestine) were sampled analyzed for Total Plate Count (TPC), Coliform (TCC) Fecal (TFCC). The average TPC ranged 4.1 x 107 to 1.02 108 cfu/gm, with highest count in C. lowest carpio, whereas organ wise load intestine 1.3 cfu/gm skin cfu/gm. TCC TFCC found respectively, distribution showed both TFCC. pathogens isolated samples Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Coagulase negative (CoNS), Vibrio cholerae, Salmonella Typhi S. Paratyphi. E. coli 67% L. 44.44% 66.67% batrachus. aureus rohita 55.55% carpio. CoNS 33.33% 22.22% 11.11% Paratyphi batrachus, V. cholerae observation this study higher bacterial all fishes above acceptance level presence Coliform, potential human suggests that microbial available market is not satisfactory. Hence, possess a threat public health safety there an urgent need improve Quality Control Assurance Systems valley.
